Gospel Conversation - Part 16 (How to Share the Gospel in an Elevator)

How to Share the Gospel in an Elevator

Life often gives us brief, unexpected moments to share the gospel, like a short elevator ride. Though limited by time, these moments can be powerful if you approach them with wisdom, love, and clarity. Here’s how to make the most of those elevator encounters for Christ.

Be Ready and Open

You never know when an opportunity will arise.

  • Keep a simple gospel message ready in your heart and mind.

  • Pray for boldness and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.

  • Smile, make eye contact, and be approachable.

Start with a Natural Icebreaker

The key to quick gospel sharing is connection.

  • Comment on something light: “Busy day, huh?” or “I love this building!”

  • If appropriate, introduce yourself: “Hi, I’m [Your Name].”

  • Be genuine; avoid rushing straight into preaching.

Look for a Spiritual Opening

Even in a short time, you can gently explore spiritual interests.

  • Ask simple questions like, “Do you have any faith or spiritual beliefs?”

  • Listen carefully to their response without interrupting.

  • If they seem open, share a brief personal testimony or gospel truth.

Share a Clear, Concise Gospel Message

Keep it simple and focused:

  • “The good news is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again, offering us forgiveness and new life if we believe in Him.”

  • “It’s not about what we do, but trusting what Jesus did for us.”

  • Use a key verse like John 3:16 or Romans 6:23 to anchor your words.

Leave a Positive Impression

Don’t feel pressured to say everything, plant a seed.

  • Smile warmly and say, “If you want to talk more, I’d love to share sometime.”

  • Offer a gospel tract or your contact info if possible.

  • End with a short prayer silently asking God to work in their heart.

Follow Up If Possible

If the situation allows:

  • Exchange contact details.

  • Invite them to a church event or small group.

  • Continue praying for the opportunity to share again.

Final Thoughts

Sharing the gospel in an elevator is about making the most of a brief encounter with grace and love. You may only have seconds, but with the right heart and message, those moments can be the start of a life-changing journey for someone.

Remember, it’s not about winning an argument but pointing people to the One who saves.
